An Oasis Within

“If even one person is affected by your words, that is a success, and if that one person is you, that is a miracle.” — Rav Yisroel Salanter

Mindy Rubenstein, M.A.

This morning I taught two classes — Mindfulness Journaling and Stress Management.

My body and mind now feel so at ease.

Even though I don’t talk about G-d in the classes, we access the infinite source of calm and love by taking care of ourselves.

Being in this place of peace is truly blissful, like resting on an island away from the stresses of daily life — even when the details of life still surround me.

Together with my teenage students, we breathed intentionally, meditated, journaled, and shared.

I’ve sometimes glimpsed this magical place before, then returned to the chaos of swirling thoughts and to-do lists.

It takes practice, but my inner island of peace is a place I can access anytime, anywhere.

In my kitchen as I prepare food for my children

At work when facing difficult people

When I’m stuck in traffic or waiting in line

It’s fully connecting so that my mind, body and soul are in sync.

I try to tap into my Source throughout the day, even when I don’t think I need to.

Sometimes it’s as simple as asking G-d, What do you need from me?

It feels good to not be in almost constant fight-or-flight mode anymore.

And I’m so grateful for the opportunity to not just teach others, but to teach myself as well.

Shabbat Shalom!
